CMAP Committees: In consultation with its partners, the CMAP Board has formed a number of working committees to address focus on areas of importance to our region and the agency. We've created a Committees page for information about meetings and other activities.

CMAP Board and Programming Committee Meetings: At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, the Board will meet at Suite 800 of Sears Tower, 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago. The agenda is posted at the Board Minutes and Agendas web page.  Please Note: If you did not register for a previous meeting, please call CMAP at 312-454-0400 and avoid possible delays when checking in at Sears Tower's security desk. Climate Change Summit:  On December 11, 2007, at the University of Illinois at Chicago, CMAP and its regional partners will host the second in a series of Innovation + Integration summits. In developing the 2040 Regional Comprehensive Plan -- due for completion in 2010 -- CMAP is beginning a dialogue on the development of a regional agenda for addressing impacts of climate change. This is one of the nation's first such efforts to take a regional approach.  The summit agenda will feature distinguished speakers assessing the risks and opportunities in terms of our energy future, human and natural resource health, infrastructure, commerce, and land-use and transportation planning.  This event is designed for policy makers and advocates across the following areas: municipal, county and regional representation, land-use and transportation, economic development, health and human services, natural resources, developers, business and civic organizations, faith-based organizations, CMAP board committees.  Please watch the summit web page for updates.  For more information, call 312.386.8704 or email summit@cmap.illinois.gov.

GIS Training. CMAP offers two-day workshops with hands-on training in the use of ArcGIS 9. Attendance at each workshop is limited to four people, each of whom will be provided a computer for the session. Datasets for northeastern Illinois introduce participants to basic vocabulary and project components. The workshop uses customized databases created by CMAP staff. Participants will receive a workbook and sample CMAP data to take home for further practice. The cost is $350 per person. CMAP Leadership Workshops:  In 2007, CMAP held a series of workshops in the region to engage local leaders in the challenges of implementing the 2040 Regional Framework Plan, a vision for the future. The workshops will provide an overview of the direction of CMAP and an update of the agency’s progress thus far. Participants will use an exciting new planning tool, the Centers Toolkit, which is designed to be a resource for local communities in enhancing their center places. CMAP will also facilitate a discussion around the upcoming integrated plan for land use and transportation, the Regional Comprehensive Plan, which is scheduled for completion in 2010.  Click here for the workshop schedule, including information about how to participate.

Free Seminar: On Friday June 1st, the Chicago Wilderness Sustainability Team in partnership with CMAP co-sponsored a half day seminar on “Understanding and Influencing the Transportation Process: Biodiversity & Green Infrastructure in Project Planning, Design and Implementation”. Speakers included CMAP staff, IDOT and private consulting engineers and landscape architect to discuss case studies. Public Comment Session: CMAP is accepting public comments on the draft 2030 Regional Transportation Plan update, the draft FY08 Unified Work Program and the draft Public Participation Plan. Click here for more information and to access the documents. To facilitate comments, a public meeting was held at CMAP from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2.

Rain Garden Workshops: On March 24 in Beecher and March 31 in Marengo, CMAP co-sponsored public workshops to educate the public about rain gardens. Using native plants, rain gardens are inexpensive to create, easy to maintain, effective in reducing water pollution and flooding, recharging groundwater and attractive to butterflies and birds. Workshop participants learned what a rain garden is and how it can be part of an overall stormwater management strategy for a subdivision and a community, how a rain garden is created and maintained, and what plants are best. Funded in part with a grant from Chicago Wilderness, these workshops were sponsored by the Trim Creek Watershed Planning Steering Committee, Greater Marengo-Union Area Watershed Planning Steering Committee, Openlands, Campaign for Sensible Growth and CMAP.

Stormwater management training. CMAP co-sponsored a day-long stormwater management training session on Thursday, March 22, 2007, in Crystal Lake. The event was for stakeholders across the region, including county and municipal officials, zoning officials, engineers, planners, developers, consultants, and others.

Weather causes cancellation of CMAP Board Meeting

The February 14 CMAP Board meeting was cancelled due to the snow storm. This included the joint meeting with the CATS Policy Committee and the meeting of the CMAP Executive Committee. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Innovation + Integration Summit. On February 6, 2007, CMAP hosted a summit on the economic impact of linking jobs, housing and transportation planning. The all-day event featuree national and local presenters, including keynote speaker Mike Moskow, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. CMAP Citizens' Advisory Committee Meeting: At 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2007, the CMAP Citizens' Advisory Committee met at Suite 800 of Sears Tower, 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago.

CMAP Citizens' Advisory Committee Workshop: At 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2007, the CMAP Citizens' Advisory Committee held an informal (and voluntary to CAC members) workshop at Suite 800 of Sears Tower, 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago.

CMAP Economic and Community Development Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31. The CMAP Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7. Unless noted otherwise, all meetings will be held at Suite 800 of Sears Tower, 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago.

Regional Water Supply Planning Group Meeting: The new RWSPG will hold its inaugural meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23 at Suite 800 of Sears Tower, 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago. Meeting materials are posted at the CMAP Water Supply Planning web page.

CMAP Committee Meetings: At 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, the CMAP Land-Use Committee met jointly with the NIPC Planning Committee. Open Forum on Regional Water-Supply Planning: CMAP hosted an all-day forum on November 17 in Oak Brook to launch a three-year regional initiative to study water supply in Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties. That event represented a critical first step toward creating a new Regional Water Supply Planning Group (RWSPG), which will be charged with making recommendations on water resource policies and plans. Public Participation Meeting: The RPB Public Participation committee met on Thursday, May 18, in the Will County room, Suite 800, Sears Tower. The only agenda item was to vote to authorize the committee to hold a closed meeting under Sections 2a and 2(c) of the Open Meetings Act to review candidates for the Citizens' Advisory Committee.

Transition Committee Meeting: Thursday April 6, 2006. The only agenda item was discussion of employment matters, therefore this was a closed meeting.

RPB Open House: An open house was held on March 29, 2006, at the new offices of RPB, NIPC and CATS. See the agenda.

Executive Committee Meeting: Executive Committee members met in closed session on Wednesday March 29, 2006. The sole agenda of this meeting was the continued review of Executive Director candidates.

Continuation of Executive Committee Meeting: The Regional Planning Board delayed the start of its March 8, 2006, meeting until 9:30 a.m. The executive committee met at 9:00 to continue its closed session regarding the executive director interviews.

Special Executive Committee Meeting: The committee held a special meeting on Saturday March 4, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. The only agenda item was to vote to authorize the executive committee to hold a series of closed meetings under Sections 2a and 2(c) of the Open Meetings Act to interview candidates for executive director of the Regional Planning Board, evaluate such candidates and discuss any other matters related to the hiring of an executive director. This meeting was held at the City of Palos Hills administration offices, 10335 S. Roberts Road, Palos Hills, Il.60465.
